Howto attach an image to a feature

I'd like to attach a UI mockup to a feature. Can this be done so that the image displays in the notes view for features?

Yes, there is experience in using iceScrum for teaching. I am the teacher. I teach Scrum and agile methods. Last year we used iceScrum during courses and for student projects. This was a great success.

Installing the war fails on Tomcat6:

Application at context iceScrum2 (or whatever) failed to start

Web research and reading the tomcat log files shows that the problem is a missing configuration.properties file.

(a) icescrum2 home directory is hardcoded as /usr/share/tomcat6/.icescrum
(b) icescrum2 configuration.properties
Expected: [webapps]/[icescrum2]/
Actual: [webapps]/[icescrum2]/META-INF/icescrum2/config/configuration.properties

Workaround
(a) Create /usr/share/tomcat6/.icescrum
(b) Copy configuration.properties up to .icescrum/[icescrum2]

The product owner can set the estimation in the product backlog by updating an existing story and change the "Size" field value.
You can also use the minimized view of the Planning Poker to drag cards on the stories in the product backlog to estimate them.
Note that in the next version of iceScrum, we'll change this behavior to allow the Scrum master and the team members to estimate stories in place of the Product Owner.

Hi,

1). A request was made to change the date format. I do not see an option to do this site-wide in the administration panel.

The date format should adapt automatically to the user selected locale in the next version. It should already be the case in some of the panels in the current version.
Or do you want to set a unique date format for every team members whatever their seleted languageis?

2). A suggestion was made that the sprint tasks that have been moved to 'done' should be movable (in those instances a project changes). However, the IceScrum2 tool does not allow you to move the sprint once it is in the 'done' field. Can this be changed?

Well, I don't think we'll change this behavior, we even thought of removing the menu when it's done, why would you want to move a finished task?

3). There was a request for what was referenced as 'change tracking'. Apparently IceScrum2 does not include it? Can it be custom added?

There are some available webservices for the tasks management (they were created for the Mylyn connector), some additional info here.

You may want to wait for next version of iceScrum, as the webservices are part of the several things we plan to add in the app

I lost a bit of time to find this info, so I publish it for any other interested people.

On my install, I finally found the config file at the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\.icescrum\icescrum\configuration.properties

(Might be good to update the install procedure with this info.)

FYI, here are my settings:
- Apache httpd 2.2
- Tomcat 6.0.20
- Tomcat worker runs as "Local System account"
- IceScrum2 webapp name is "icescrum"
- IceScrum version is R2#15.1

I've tried to use is2 with Mylyn also and didn't see any of my tasks
After a while I looked at my Tomcat logfiles and found this error :

Vous pouvez cachez les projets, ils ne seront visibles dans la liste que par les membres du projet.
Pour ce faire, allez dans la vue caractéristiques de projet (le lien "Projet: le_nom_du_projet" en haut de la fenêtre) avec le rôle Scrum Master, et activer le masquage du projet. Il y a une entrée sur le blog qui en parle, ici.

Hi,
If you're trying to estimate a User-Story, you have to be Product Owner and then you can estimate your story in the product backlog (use the modify option on a postit-note). You can also estimate with the planning poker widget : open the planning poker view, then the product backlog, the planning poker will be minimized in the minimized-views list on the left. Then just drag & drop the cards on the postits.

Browse to the local directory of Icescrum² located in:
Unix-like : /home//.icescrum/icescrum-web-R2
Windows (Vista/7) : C:\Users\\.icescrum\icescrum-web-R2
Windows XP : C:\Documents and Settings\\.icescrum\icescrum-web-R2

Delete the "icescrum2_db***" files inside, they will be re-generated the next time you'll start icescrum.

Hi,
Icescrum² can generate a general PDF report of the whole project (Project > Project Selective Export).
But, currently it doesn't have an direct export functionality to Word or Excel.

Also, it didn't work with the tomcat6 bundled with Ubuntu and the official package from apache's website.

Hi,

This is a known bug, fixed in our latest nightybuild.
There's still a workaround in the current public version to make this issue less cumbersome: when opening the product backlog, manually select the filter "To prioritize" in the filters list (in the menu). You won't have to close/open the window each time to see your new user stories.

Sorry for the late answer. Well, it is the first time I've seen that error. Have you tried to increase the dedicated memory for your JVM ? (the default 256MB may not be enough to run IceScrum).
Is this happening every time you register a new user ?

A normal member cannot update a description or notes in a User Story if they did not create it. Is there a reason? I would like anyone to be able to update it.

Well, the thing in IceScrum is that anyone can suggest a new story (even the stakeholders), but it's up to the Product Owner to validate the story. So, if a story need to be edited, it should only be done by the one who suggested it (to add details or whatever), or the by PO who may want to adapt the feature.

What is very frustrating is that when you are not allowed to update the story, you get a "Only Product Owner or Story creator can update it" in the status bar which is easy to miss,
but what is worse is that it appears as if you have made the change. Any new text you add is still displayed, but then if you logout and log back in again the change is lost. ouch.

Shouldn't the "Update" menu item be grayed out if you don't have rights?

Hi,

You can use the "Mask project" option: the project will only
be visible to the existing member of the project, so no one will be able to
join. You can temporarly disable this option later if you want to add a new
member.
See this recent post to get a few information on the project
settings.

I need to be able to see
the trend of release burndown. How the pending backlog is being cleared
after each sprint.
 
Well, Icescrum can generate a
Release Burndown chart (accessible in the Release Plan view in Icescrum²),
but I'm not sure it really shows what it is supposed to show, we intend to
check this out in the future.

Further I would like to be able to see the new user
stories added to the product backlog while a particular sprint is running.
This will be useful to highlight the growth rate of the product
backlog.
 
For this, you may be interested by the
Product Burnup Chart which trace for each sprint the total number of points
in the product backlog and the sum of points for finished stories.

Then, you can also take a look to the Cumulative Flow

Which version of IceScrum are you using ?
The
current nighty build may be faster than the last public release (R2#15) as
we made a few modifications in this part of the application since then
(although I think 1,193 test cases could take a while to load even in the
lastest build).

If you don't mind, and were already using the
R2#15 release, you can try the latest nighty build (don't forget to backup your
projects before) and see if the loading speed is significantly better (or

Since icescrum2_db.tmp contains the data, it seems that
you were using the HSQLDB when you created your project and users. When you
changed the IS² database configuration, did you restart the server before
starting to use the software  ? The administration config's changes only
take effects after restarting the server (if you were using the
Administration Panel, there is a wrong message showing up when you confirm
the changes, IS² will not restart the server automatically, we forgot to
change that message ...).

If you restore IS² original
configuration and restart the server, you should be able to access your
previous data. Then, use the "Save project" option in the menu to export
all your data with its users. Switch back to your MySQL configuration
(don't forget to restart the server once again) and use the "Load project"
option in the menu, the users associated with the projects will
